FAQs
Tips for your first class!
We recommend arriving early for your first visit to get familiar with the space, connect with your instructor before class, and settle in. If you are new to yoga, let your instructor know so they can be more equipped to support you throughout practice. Just like any new activity, there is a learning curve to yoga; you might be lost at times until you learn basic poses, names of shapes and the language of the practice, so be forgiving to yourself and feel free to take as many breaks as you need! We strive to create a non-comparative and non-preformative space for you to move and breathe. Lastly, we recommend you choose a mat space near the back of the room if you are able to snag one. Because most of us are visual learners, the vantage point of seeing folks around you can be helpful in getting started!
What do I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move around in. Aside from that, bring a yoga mat and water vessel to class. If you do not have a mat, we do offer mat rentals for $2. Your first rental will be on us! If you are joining one of our infrared heated classes, bring a towel to stay comfortable while you sweat. Forgot yours? We have towel rentals available as well!
How do I register for class/ cancel a booking?
Please create an account prior to coming into the studio on our website or using this link here. All students will need to create their own account in order to practice at BYC. We recommend doing this prior to arriving so you can enjoy the space and settle into class. Although pre-registration is not required it is highly recommended to ensure we have space in class. You can download the Mindbody app for easy booking management!
Sign into your account HERE or download the MINDBODY app available for iPhone and android to easily manage your bookings. Cancel registrations the same way you book a class. We ask for 2 hours notice to cancel bookings after which a loss of the purchased class will be deducted from your account.
How early should I arrive? If I am running late, can I still join class?
If you are brand new to the studio we recommend you arrive 15-20 minutes early. For regulars familiar with our space, please arrive 5-10 minutes before any scheduled class time. We do permit late arrivals up to 5 minutes late, after the 5 minute mark the doors are closed and locked for safety reasons. If you are running late and worried about the door being locked, please call us prior to class being started and it might be possible for us to keep the door open for you longer to accommodate.
What membership is right for me?
If you are new to the studio, be sure to start with one of our two new student offerings. As a new student you will be eligible to choose one of these two options. New student specials are deeply discounted offerings intended to give you the opportunity to get a feel of our space and experience what we have to offer. The next step is to choose a membership or class package that fits your needs. The best fit will depend on how often you'd like to practice. Our pricing menu is a great guide.
How many classes do you recommend I attend each week to get the benefits of a consistent yoga practice?
There is no magic number! Some members of our community will practice every day, some much less. In general, you will get the most benefits physically, mentally and emotionally from the practice if you attend regularly at least 2 times per week. As you find class styles and instructors you resonate with, we recommend regular attendance to maintain a consistent schedule as much as you are able. We say this with the understanding that by creating a relationship with an instructor and coming regularly to their classes, they are more equipped to personalize the practice and support you with verbal (and, if you consent, hands-on) adjustments. You can read more about our staff here.
Do I need to pre register for class? How do I sign up?
Please create an account prior to coming into the studio on our website or using this link here. All students will need to create their own account in order to practice at BYC. We recommend doing this prior to arriving so you can enjoy the space and settle into class. Although pre-registration is not required it is highly recommended to ensure we have space in class. What can I expect in a yoga class?
Once class begins the instructor will open with a short centering or simple guided meditation to induce focus and relaxation. Class will progress though a warm up, into a standing series moving toward an energetic peak, then pace will slow to wind down and close with 5 minutes of rest. Class lengths range from 60-75 minutes.
What classes should I start with?
All of our classes are designed for all levels. The best place to start is choosing a class that fits into your schedule. While all classes are designed to accommodate beginners, each class will offer a different pace and level of physical exertion. You can read more about our class styles on our website here to get started.
How do I know which studio my class or event is at? How will I know if my class is being held indoors or outside?
Corresponding studio locations will be clearly indicated next to each class or event. On our online schedule, classes at our main studio in the Granary Building will be marked as "// In Studio" or "// Outdoor Deck", while those at the new location in the Hardware Building are labeled "// Annex (Holly St.)" Similar denotations will apply to events.
Please keep an eye on our live schedule by signing into your account or checking your confirmation email for the location before arriving. We keep things updated and classes will be moved indoors in the case of inclement weather including rain, cold, and excessive heat.
How do I book a class at The Annex?
You can register for classes, events, and trainings at The Annex just as you would for a class at BYC, with the same booking platform, student account, and login process. All memberships, class packages, and pricing apply to both locations.
How do I find The Annex?
The Annex is in the historic Hardware Building downtown, with entrances on both West Holly Street and Bay Street. The easiest and most direct access is from W. Holly Street, through the alcove between Goat Mountain Pizza and The Foxhole Lounge. This entrance provides street-level access with no stairs and leads directly to secured indoor bike parking right next to our studio door! NOTE: For both building entrances, you’ll need to enter a door code, which will be emailed to you upon class registration.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes! Please have friends create their own account if they don't have one already. All visitors to the studio must create an account with us which allows them to sign our liability waiver to join class. Signing up prior to arrival allows more time to get set up and relax.
How do I cancel my autopay membership?
You MUST contact us HERE via email, phone, or in-studio to request to be removed from any autopay membership. We ask for a minimum 5 days notice to cancel your payment before your card is charged.
Do you currently have any COVID-19 policies in place?
Our number one priority is maintaining the safety of our community. In an effort to do so, our COVID-19 policies at BYC follow and are in accordance with current CDC and state guidelines. Masks are optional throughout the studio and in common spaces. We are fortunate to have a powerful airflow system that circulates fresh air into the facility and this system is running at all times. In the event that you have been recently exposed to COVID-19 or received a positive test after attending a class, please find more information regarding our protocols here.
